Abstract:
This article actually brings about the presentation given at the Caraiman Monastery on 20th June 2018, as part of the conference “My Faith increased step by step”, which is part of the events celebrating 2018 as the Solemn Year of Unity of Faith and Nation, and Commemorative Year of the 1918 Great Union Founders. The reverent father’s words continue the discussions on a theme which, we might say, has never been sufficiently understood and debated, namely, the Christian foundation of the Romanian People’s ethos and history, a foundation which has succeeded to keep alive the very existence of this nation, on all levels of life, both spiritual and social-political, for two thousand years and so. Ever since the Romanian people was formed, Romanian Christianity constituted the central element which inspired the ethos of its history. Our country’s real history did not consist in the secular or post-Forty-eighter historians’ methods or principles, or in the succession of military victories and of ruling princes, but rather, it is based on the Christian spirit which founded and supported this country. Father Holbea offers us a general perspective, supported by various examples, of the way in which the Romanian people have passed through its history heartened by the Christian ethos and divine providence. He mentions several names of Christian princes, hierarchs and scholars, as well as others, who were determinative factors of the historical evolution of the Romanian nation on all levels.
