Abstract:
Confessing Christ in the apostolic age and preaching Christ after the manner of Saint John the Baptist and then by Christ Himself constitute a work that shall never end in this age, but only the age to come. The weakening of the fervour by which repentance is preached today and the precarious understanding of the biblical message is the subject of the discourse present by Hieromonk Maximos (Orthodox Inter-Seminary Retreat Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology Friday, Sept. 28, 2018). He starts from the biblical event of the visit of Elisabeth by Maria which took place after the Good News of Incarnation given by the Archangel (Luke cap. 1). The author finds here a great deal of significance, of which some are still undiscovered by many of us. With the help of the Holy Fathers who explained the Gospels, Hieromonk Maximos proves the up-to-dateness of the Gospel’s main message – the repentance – the fervour and power of which, says he, has been reduced by half.
