Abstract:
Orthodoxy in the Iberian Peninsula is not a novelty of the 20th century. It has a notable presence since the first centuries. Although it did not have the organizational form of today, it was fully Orthodox even from the third century and beyond. What is new about the Orthodoxy in this territory is its organization in very stable ecclesiastical structures such as parishes, bishoprics, Metropolitans, some of which exist since 1960-1970, and some others created after 2000. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: nowadays, Orthodoxy in the Iberian Peninsula is evident, developed from a missionary-pastoral point of view and it is well anchored in the Orthodox Christians living in Spain and Portugal, as well as in the lives of Spanish and Portuguese people who adhered to the orthodox rite. The study is divided in four: I The Apostolic Mission in Spain and the Beginnings of Christianity in the Iberian Peninsula. II The Beginnings of Orthodoxy in Spain. III The Beginnings of Orthodoxy in Portugal IV Orthodoxy in Andorra.
